More than 650,000 women undergo tubaligation in the United States annually, thus ending their ability to have children.
What happens when circumstances change and a women decides that she really does want to become pregnant? Approximately six
percent of women who originally decided that tubal ligation was the way to end their childbearing years will, within five
years, decide that she does indeed want to experience pregnancy and the birth of a new baby.
Approximately one million women in the U.S. have tubal ligation surgery to cause sterilization as a form of birth control
each year. Of those, an estimated 10,000 report regretting their decision to become sterilized and wanting a reversal. Among
the most often cited reasons for a wanting a reversal are the desire to have another child following the death of a child
or husband, or a divorce and remarriage.
